I’m a physical oceanographer who studies how geophysical flows—including ocean currents and atmospheric circulation—interact with topography. Using numerical simulations, I investigate how seafloor features drive the cross-shelf exchange of water, nutrients, and dissolved gases between the deep ocean and continental shelves.

I’m currently part of the Department of Physical Oceanography at the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada, Baja California (CICESE).

From 2021 to 2024, I was a researcher with the Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction group at the Instituto de Ciencias de la Atmósfera y Cambio Climático. I completed my Ph.D. in the Mesoscale Ocean and Atmospheric Dynamics Group under Professor Susan Allen at the University of British Columbia.

Research Interests

  • Stratified flow over topography and associated mixing processes
  • Cross-shelf exchange and transport mechanisms in submarine canyons
  • Analytical and numerical modeling of geophysical flows.

Education

  • Ph.D. in Oceanography, University of British Columbia (2020)
  • B.Sc. in Physics, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (2013)
